Other Types of Garden Clocks

When choosing a garden clock it is best to do your homework of the different materials that make up the clock. It is not economically wise to walk into any store and pick up any type of clock and say “this would be perfect in the garden, I am going to purchase it and put it outside” because it is highly likely that the item you would purchase would not be sturdy enough for the garden and outdoors. You need to pick a clock that is weather proof and can handle any season, given that where you live could experience the harshest of weather conditions. Your clock needs to be able to work even after a heat wave or a snowstorm. After going through the seasons your garden clock should be able to give you the time effortlessly as well as still appear lovely in your garden.

There are three types of materials that are quality outdoor clock materials. They are metal, terracotta, and most recently, resin.

The most popular to choose from is a metal clock which could consist of cast iron, aluminum, copper, or brass. These often match other garden decorations, such as a cast iron plant holder or wall decoration. There are many different metal clocks on the market and all vary in style and appearance. You can purchase a raw metal clock, a painted metal clock, or different styles such as antique or modern metal clocks to match perfectly in your garden.

The terracotta clocks are popular as well because terracotta is often the choice base product to match in your garden. Many appreciate the simplicity of terracotta because it brings not only a natural, earth tone to your garden, but it does not distract from all the various bright and contrasting colors that your garden will have. Terracotta clocks are weather proof, but you might be limited in the number of styles and varieties in comparison to the metal clocks.

The newest addition to garden clock materials is resin. Resin is actually a hydrocarbon secretion of many plants, specifically trees. This material obviously can survive in the outdoors considering it is originally a plant based chemical property. If it can survive in plant form, obviously designed as a garden clock the resin will manage just fine throughout the seasons. Resin garden clocks are easily molded to different styles which gives the consumer a variety of options and can even be formed to mock metals such as brass or iron. It is economically valuable because you can get a mock metal garden clock for a discounted price if the material is actually resin.
